We understand that due to the coronavirus and school closures, teachers are rapidly modifying lessons to support distance learning with their students. Video live streaming in your Edmodo Classes will support synchronous online learning experiences, and help you more closely match online learning to the in-person classroom experience that your students are used to. And while life may sometimes get in the way when live streaming from home (think phones ringing or dogs barking), the face-to-face interaction your students will get is worth it—it’ll help your students feel a part of your classroom, no matter where they are!
Edmodo makes video live streaming to your students as easy as 1–2–3.
Step 1: Set up a live stream
Sign up for one of these supported live streaming platforms we support, then set up your live stream and copy the live stream URL for later use. Please note that for first time users on each platform, it will take 24–48 hours to get live streaming approved.
- YouTube Live (free) – Watch an instructional setup video here. Or read our step-by-step guide here.
- Vimeo Live (requires a paid account) – Watch an instructional setup video here.
Step 2: Get your Edmodo Class ready for the live stream
Creating an Edmodo Class for your students is easy! Read this article or watch this video to learn how to create a Class. You can also check out this guide for getting started on Edmodo and this guide for setting up Edmodo Classes for distance learning.
Step 3: Post the live stream video in your Edmodo Class
- Go to your Edmodo Class and click on the Class composer at the top of your Class stream (the area that says “Start a discussion, share class materials, etc…”). Read this article to learn more about how to create a Note to post to your Class.
- Write a short description of the live stream in the Note, such as the content you’ll be covering. Also be sure to include the date and time of the live stream so your students know when to tune in.
- Paste the live stream URL you copied earlier into the Note.
- Click “Post” to send the Note to your Class.
- Once you post the Note, members of your Class will be notified of the upcoming live stream and it will automatically be available to play in your Class when the video stream goes live.

We hope this guide helps you quickly set up your classes on Edmodo for distance learning! Please reach out to our Support Team if you have any questions. You can also check out some distance learning activities here, or find and share strategies with other teachers on Edmodo by using the hashtags #bettertogether #coronasafety.
That’s all! We hope this guide helps you hold live lessons with your students and add some interaction to your virtual classroom!
This is great, thank you. Would it be in Spanish, so I can share with my colleagues?

Thanks 😘☺️
Thank you for all the info! But these live streams don’t allow interaction with students right?
In YouTube live you can set to enable live commenting. The students can all type at once while the teacher is teaching. So, like every class ground rules apply.
I would like to make for my class Edmodo video
It is possible that this tutorial may at some time be given in Spanish??. There are many teachers from South America who use this platform and we cannot go to our schools and we need to know how to communicate live with our students.
